The town is situated on the side of the Oglio River that falls under the province of Bergamo, in the area known as Val Calepio, the zone where the DOC wine of the same name is produced. The town is made up of the villages of: Tagliuno, where the town hall is located, Calepio, Cividino and Quintano. The town of Calepio is quite recent, in actual fact it dates back to 1927, the year in which the villages were united into a single town. This is why nowadays each village still has its own parish church and the patron saints are different.
